An Integrated Pedestrian Network

A rail trail between Casino and Murwillumbah could form the spine of an integrated pedestrian network across the entire region.   The disused railway corridors from Booyong to Ballina and Casino to Mallanganee could be included and studies to connect Nimbin, Coraki and Kyogle into the network could be conducted.  Add to this the existing National Parks trails, The Long Forest Bridle Trails, cycleways and pathways and we could have one of the most extensive and strategically valuable pedestrian systems in the world.

Project work would include resurfacing the track, decking the bridges and erecting saftey railings, restoring the old station buildings and rehabilitating the corridor by removing noxious weeds such as camphor laural and privot. Public amenities such as kiosks, rest shelters, campgrounds, bunk houses and bus stops should be part of the project and some of these types of infrastructure could be developed by private sector investors.
